Fleece Rice Bag

Today is the second day of my 31 days dedicated to my crafting business series. You can read all about my October series here. 

This is a similar post to the one i did yesterday, Hot/Cold Rice Bags. I wanted to make something a little different. This time I made a fleece version. The fleece can be heated and not cooled! I also tried making a heart instead of a square. It would be lovely with a vanilla scent. 

I started by making a template, pinned it to my fabric and drew around with chalk. 

Then I cut out the heart.

I removed the template.

Then I sewed around the heart, but left a split in one of the sides.

When I tunred it right side out, it got a really weird shape, so I tried again.

Second time around it looked a lot better.

I filled it with about 0.5 dl of rice and sewed it shut using the same ladder stitch as my previous post.

I am so happy with how it turned out. Its super cute and fit my pocket when I walk my dog in the morning. However, I am not 100% sure this is something that I could sell. Personally I love them though, so I might end up making a couple that I will keep for myself if they do not sell. I will for sure buy some vanilla scent. 

Hot / Cold Rice Bags

Today is the first day of October. The first day of my October series. If you have missed the introduction, check it out here.

As I mentioned in my introduction post I have been working on rice bags this month. I have made some previously and posted on my blog here and here. However for my business I wanted something a bit different. I was walking around the fabric store so unsure what fabric to choose. I ended with two different fabrics, one for the front with a star pattern and one plain for the same colour.

I decided to have three different sizes: Small 7x10 cm, Medium 10x15 cm and Large 15 x 40 cm. I got 30 cm of each fabric which was 110 cm long. This gives me 4l, 3m and 6s total. This size includes the seams, so the final product is a bit slimmer. I decided to start creating 1l, 1m and 2s. 

I started cutting both the fabrics in the different sizes.

Then I pinned them, with the correct size facing inwards.

I sew around all the sides only leaving a small gap in each where I could ass the rice.

I added the rice, about 0.5 dl S, 1.5 dl M and 7 dl L, using a funnel.

I had some difficulties sewing the opening shut for hand. The one closest is a looping technique. The one in the behind, and much prettier, is made using a ladder stitch (video).

I am very happy with how these turned out. The small ones fit perfectly in a hand. The medium size can for example be used on the forehead or hands. The big size can be used for shoulders, stomach pains, or even placing under the blanket before going to bed.

Is this something you would buy? I am considering making them in one or two more colours!

Crafting Business - Introduction

I have quite a few dreams in my life. One of them is owning my own successful business.

I started thinking about it over a year ago. I decided to start with soaps. I ordered quite a few kilos of soap bases, essential oils, soap colouring and soap molds from Soap Basic. I had some money saved up so I invested it in my business. I made some soaps using different combinations of essential oils, bases, colouring and molds. I sold soaps to my family and friends. But then I started getting really unmotivated, so I took some months off. 

Then I decided to have a re-opening September 1st. I created soap combinations with one essential oil per colour and one to two soap molds per combination. I decided to make new products that would be released every month. This month I have been working on making hot/cold bags in three different sizes. 

This month Nesting Place is organizing a huge 31 days event in October where everyone can join. I was quite unsure what I was going to blog about. I was stuck between sewing and organizing. That was until I found out that there is going to be a Christmas market where I live in the end of November. I decided this would be a perfect opportunity to get my products out there an noticed. 

That is why I decided to have 31 days dedicated to my business. I was thinking a bit about ways to make this month as effective as possible. that I was going to create different "sample" products I would consider to sell. I would buy my supplies locally and use supplies I already have. Somewhere around mid-end October I will research online to find supplies to be used when I make my final products.

Busy Weeks

I am so sorry for not posting last week but I have been so busy. 

I was working Monday to Wednesday. Thursday I got my hair cut and took the train to Oslo with my sister. Then Friday I had a terrible cold, used most the day relaxing and had a girls night with mum and my sisters. Saturday I participated in the 10km in Oslo Marathon in just 1:20:11. With my cold I estimated maybe 1:45. So I was super happy with my result. The rest of the day was spent more or less almost sleeping with a body full of pain. Sunday I took the train back home.

Monday to Wednesday this week I am working. Then Thursday taking the train back to Oslo with my big sister. Spending the weekend there for my fathers Convocation. He has just finished his master degree. Its also my parents 28th anniversary. Then Sunday I am taking the train back with both my sisters. 

Next week I will be working and hanging out with my little sister who is here on autumn break. Then my parents will be visiting during the weekend and taking my little sister home on Sunday. Due to these crazy weeks I will not be posting anything.
